Arthur Tress
Arthur Tress was born in 1940 and grew up in a strange time in the United States. In 1952, when he was twelve, his father gave him a Kodak camera. It was the first of many cameras he would own and use. Tress began to spend time at a local community center which had a darkroom and offered lessons in developing and printing.
Although he had partly supported himself during his travels by shooting documentary photographs, he hadn't considered photography as a serious career. The photographs he’d taken previously were primarily ethnographic, intended to show what life was like for the people in the various cultures he visited. On his return to the U.S., however, Tress began to consider the more aesthetic potential of photography. Rather than merely documenting the world he saw, Tress began to use photography as a form of interpretive expression.

Shoot 1
For shoot 1 I am going to...
- use a student to pose as if they are running away
- take a picture of a foot as if stepping
I have edited my photograph using Photoshop to create this image. First I cut out the figure using the magnetic lasso tool then I changed the opacity to make it faded. I combined the figure with my other photograph where I have captured a foot from a worms eye view as I wanted to use it for this final piece. I then added a filter to make it more effective. Overall I thought it worked well because it creates a nightmare scene as it captures the moment in act hence why the foot is out of focus.
Shoot 2
For my second shoot I am going to ...
- use a student to look out of a window
- Photoshop the image so they are looking out to a sunset/rise
Going through the process of Photoshop...
I have created this image using Photoshop. First I took a photograph of the model looking through a real window . I have taken the picture from the side of his head in order to see what is over his shoulder. I have used a light reflection gold disc to capture the light effect on the models face.I really liked how it looked and feel it worked well as it created a warm atmosphere. Using Photoshop I have edited the photograph by using the magnetic lasso tool to delete the window panel.
Lake District
In my own time I visited the lake district and took these pictures. I noticed that this part of the lake was similar to an image that I have used off the internet for my final picture. I decided that it would better if I used my photographs instead. I feel that these images create a calm atmosphere.
Finished piece
This is my final image for this this shoot after I changed the background image to my own photograph.
shoot 3
After my shoot I used Photoshop to edit my images below are my screen shots showing the different stages of my work.
The first stage was to layer the two images on top of each other then the tools I used were magnetic lasso tool to cut out the shadow in my image.I then added a black and white filter of my original photograph to create a dark and dramatic effect. Then I edited the shadow layer by changing the opacity of the image to make it appear more realistic and make it more suitable for my original photograph. I feel that my final piece resembles something you would see in a nightmare.
